SEND Teaching Assistant – Year 1 2-Form Entry Primary School – Cheltenham Start Date: September 2026 Duration: Full Academic Year Hours: Full-Time, Term-Time Only Pay: Competitive daily rate, dependent on experience

Reed Education is working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive 2-form entry primary school seeking a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to support a Year 1 pupil throughout the 2026/27 academic year.

The successful candidate will play a key role in helping a child access learning, develop socially and emotionally, and achieve their individual targets.

The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will provide targeted support to a Year 1 pupil with additional needs, working closely with the class teachers, SENDCo, and wider staff team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing 1:1 support and intervention throughout the school day.
  • Supporting the pupil’s academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Implementing strategies from support plans and EHCPs where applicable.
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff across the Year 1 team.
  • Encouraging independence, confidence, and positive behaviour.
  • Adapting learning activities to meet individual needs.
  • Monitoring progress and providing regular feedback to the class teacher and SENDCo.

The Ideal Candidate

The school is looking for someone who:

  • Has experience supporting children with SEND in a school or similar setting.
  • Is patient, empathetic, and resilient.
  • Can build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
  • Has strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrates a genuine passion for inclusion and supporting children’s development.
  • Holds a Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant experience (desirable but not essential).
