Job Description:

Loughton Voluntary Care is a volunteer‑led local charity that supports older and less mobile residents in Loughton by providing transport to medical appointments, befriending, shopping assistance, and social inclusion services. It is dedicated to helping elderly people live independently and stay connected within their community through practical support and companionship.

The Coordinator oversees the day‑to‑day operations of Loughton Voluntary Care. The role combines leadership, administration, and community engagement to ensure the charity runs effectively, sustainably, and compassionately.

This is an opportunity for the right individual to develop a well‑loved and cherished local charity. The current position has been developed according to the passion and abilities of the current coordinator – the right applicant will have the flexibility to similarly develop their job description.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the charity’s operations, including service delivery, volunteer coordination, and community outreach.
  • Develop and implement programmes to improve the quality and reach of services for the people of Loughton.
  • Ensure compliance with charity, safeguarding, and health and safety regulations.
  • Report to the Board of Trustees: verbal report for quarterly Committee Meetings; writes annual report for AGM.

Other Responsibilities (can be delegated)

  • Recruit and support volunteers to deliver LVC services.
  • Work with the Treasurer to develop funding applications to ensure long‑term sustainability.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local councils, healthcare providers, donors, and community partners.
  • Evaluate programmes and services to measure effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Build partnerships with other organisations working in Loughton to improve the quality of services.

Skills

  • Proven experience in management, ideally in the charity, community service or social care sectors.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Financial management and fundraising experience desirable.
  • Understanding of issues affecting older adults and local community care networks.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and safeguarding guidelines.
  • Compassionate and empathetic.
  • Collaborative, motivated, and flexible approach to work.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Full‑time or part‑time voluntary position based at the charity’s local office with opportunity to mostly work from home.
  • The position is voluntary, with reimbursement of some expenses.
  • Some evening or weekend work may be required for events or outreach activities.
  • The coordinator works with a team of volunteers who provide support on all key aspects of the charity.
