Neonatal Support Worker

We are currently seeking to appoint a support worker to join our Neonatal team. This part‑time (36 hours per week) post will be suitable for anyone with an interest in working within a healthcare setting whose aim would be to assist in the smooth running of a busy Neonatal Unit by supporting qualified staff in their day‑to‑day duties.

Main duties of the job
The responsibilities of the job will be interesting, varied and challenging and will be diverse in content but mainly consisting of housekeeping duties in the support of providing care to the families on the Neonatal unit. You will be expected to communicate with members of the Neonatal team, families and extended multi‑disciplinary team.
The Neonatal Unit offers a 24‑hour service. You will be required to work on a Monday to Sunday rota to ensure service needs are met.
You will have effective interpersonal skills for sensitive situations, an ability to work without close supervision, and be able to recognise and report any clinical issues.
Previous experience in a similar role and/or working in the NHS is desirable but not essential. You should also be willing to undertake further training as required.
Job responsibilities
To provide excellent standards of cleanliness whilst working to schedules relevant to allocated areas. Clean medical device equipment as directed and set up ready for use. Ensure the clinical areas within the Department are well‑stocked. Monitor stores and order replacements as required. To assist the registered practitioner in providing compassionate care and assistance to patients families/visitors appropriate to their needs. Responsible for carrying‑out tasks as delegated by the registered practitioner who has overall accountability for delegating care. To comply with the Trust’s vision, values and behavioural compact.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- Good standard of general education including Maths and English Language at Level 1 or above (GCSE A‑G or equivalent).
- Numeracy and Literacy at Level 2 or above.
Experience
- Previous experience in a similar role.
- Previous NHS experience.
Physical Skills
- Mobility to be able to stand and walk for long periods of the shift.
- Ability to follow Trust policy for moving and handling.
- Mobility to be able to push and pull large pieces of equipment around the Department.
- Ability to sit at a workstation as necessary to perform the post.
- Accuracy required when using IT devices.
Skills & Knowledge
- Able to work without close supervision.
- Willing to undertake further training.
- Able to recognise and report any clinical issues.
- Ability to prioritise tasks.
- Ability to communicate messages and instructions accurately to colleagues, both verbally and in writing.
- Effective interpersonal skills in sensitive situations.
- Basic keyboard skills.
- Ability to use basic email system and document clearly, using plain English.
- Basic understanding of health and safety requirements in a patient environment.
- Ability to learn about management and maintenance of technical equipment.
- General understanding of confidentiality requirements in a healthcare setting.
- Willing to complete Competency‑Based Assessments relating to the role.
- Experience of managing violence and aggression.
