We are looking for a dedicated School Support Worker to join a welcoming and forward-thinking special needs school. The Role
As a School Support Worker, you will work closely with teachers, teaching assistants, therapists, and healthcare professionals to provide day-to-day support for pupils with additional needs. You will help pupils engage in learning, promote independence, support their personal care where required, and contribute to a positive and safe school environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Pupils: Provide one-to-one and small group support throughout the school day, helping pupils access learning and school activities.
- Personal Care: Assist with personal care, feeding, toileting, moving and handling, and mobility support where required, always maintaining pupils’ dignity and wellbeing.
- Promote Independence: Encourage pupils to develop confidence, communication, social skills, and independence in line with their individual abilities.
- Support Learning: Work alongside classroom staff to help pupils participate in lessons, sensory activities, and therapeutic interventions.
- Behaviour and Emotional Support: Provide calm, consistent support to help pupils regulate their emotions and feel safe and engaged.
- Work as Part of a Team: Collaborate with teachers, therapists, healthcare professionals, and families to provide the best possible support for each pupil.
- Monitor Wellbeing: Observe pupils’ progress and wellbeing, reporting any concerns or achievements to the appropriate staff members.
- Maintain a Safe Environment: Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and school policies to ensure pupils are protected and supported at all times.
What We’re Looking For
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Experience supporting children, young people, or vulnerable adults, ideally within education, care, or support settings.
- A patient, caring, and resilient approach.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues.
- Confidence supporting individuals with personal care and mobility needs.
- A willingness to learn and adapt to the varying needs of pupils.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Experience supporting pupils with SEND, autism, PMLD, SLD, SEMH, or other additional needs is desirable but not essential, as full training and ongoing support may be provided.
