Employment Information
Fixed Term Contract, Grade 6. Contact hours are paid at a multiplier of 2.5 basic hours for group teaching, totalling £56.96/£67.49 per hour (basic hourly rate starts from £23.46 per hour, inclusive of London Allowance). Marking is paid at the basic hourly rate.
Location: Bloomsbury, London.
Hourly paid – dependent on hours worked.
About the Department
SOAS School of Law is a world‑leading, research‑led department ranked 1st in the UK 2021 Research Excellence Framework for Research Outputs and 6th Overall. It specializes in legal systems and legal challenges of the developing world with strengths in human rights, international law, environmental law, and trade law. The department collaborates with specialist law centres and offers dynamic events throughout the year.
About the Role
SOAS School of Law is building a pool of experienced teachers to provide teaching for non‑degree, daytime or evening, language courses, both online and on campus. Candidates will deliver and prepare lessons for native and non‑native English speakers from around the globe.
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver course content for Contract Law, Criminal Law, Public Law, Property I and II, Tort Law, Intro to European Union Law, and Legal Systems of Asia and Africa I and II.
- Prepare lesson materials, assessments, and grading in accordance with course requirements.
- Manage classroom and online sessions, ensuring an inclusive learning environment.
- Use the institutional multiplier of 2.5 basic hours for group teaching and receive teaching pay at the basic hourly rate.
Qualifications
- Strong communication skills and confidence in teaching native and non‑native English speakers.
- Eligibility to work in the UK or have limited leave to remain in the UK and the right to work for the duration of the contract.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching or academic delivery (preferably in law or related disciplines).
