Job Summary
Support worker based in the Carlisle area tasked with assisting care leavers, family placements, separated children, adults and NHS referrals. The role focuses on developing independent living skills, supporting education or employment, medication reminders, benefits applications, accompaniment to appointments, and providing emotional support. The position is part‑time, 16 hours per week, Monday‑Friday 9:00‑5:00. A private vehicle insured for business use is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and support independent living skills for young people and adults 16+.
- Provide assistance with education and employment opportunities.
- Offer medication reminders and support with benefits applications.
- Accompany clients to appointments and participate in meetings.
- Provide emotional support and encouragement.
About You
The ideal candidate will be passionate about the sector, looking to make a difference with the service users and seeking a challenging yet rewarding role.
- Previous experience supporting people with support needs, families or young people to gain independence.
- Full driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use.
- Willingness to travel extensively across the Carlisle area.
- Thorough knowledge of safeguarding vulnerable adults and children.
- NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification or willingness to work towards it.
- Computer literate – good understanding of Microsoft 365.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
Key Duties
- Manage a caseload of Service Users across the Carlisle area, helping them build independent living skills.
- Liaise with relevant professionals such as Social Workers, Healthcare practitioners, DWP, and the Police.
- Write detailed reports assessing Service Users’ independent living skills.
- Conduct weekly inspections of Service User properties.
- Support clients in accessing and maintaining education/employment.
- Promote physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, de‑escalating challenging situations when they arise.
- Signpost to appropriate services when required, including mental health, drug rehabilitation, counselling and education.

Salary
£27,536.25 – £31,470 per year (depending on experience and appointed grade). An additional £34,375.24 per annum inclusive of sleep rate is payable where applicable.
