Overview

Due to expansion, an independent school in Gainsborough requires an emotional wellbeing assistant to work one-to-one with children who have adverse childhood experiences. You will guide them on their journey at their new school. The school predominantly caters for children aged 7–16 who have social, emotional and mental health needs. This role requires a high level of resilience, patience and empathy for children who can display dysregulated behaviours and trauma responses. This is a highly supportive environment with the backing of a wider team, expert care colleagues and senior leadership. You will support emotional regulation and gently encourage pupils to access their learning in ways that meet their needs. You will also have responsibility for reporting safeguarding concerns on behalf of your pupil and the wider school community, while fostering a trusting and safe relationship with your pupil.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one emotional wellbeing support for pupils with adverse childhood experiences.
  • Support pupils to regulate emotions and facilitate access to learning in a manner that meets individual needs.
  • Report safeguarding concerns promptly on behalf of the pupil and the school community.
  • Foster a trusting, safe relationship with pupils and contribute to a supportive school environment.

Working Arrangements and Contract

  • Hours: 08:30–16:30 Monday to Wednesday; 08:30–15:00 Thursday and Friday.
  • Full-time role; Monday to Friday each week (part-time options are not available at this time).
  • Permanent position, subject to successful completion of a 12–16 week probation period through Milk Education.
  • Daily pay rate: £114.33.
  • Start date: 3 September 2026.

Qualifications and Experience

  • At least 6 months of experience working with children or a transferable background in mental health or public service roles (e.g., Police, Probation, ex-military, HMP or other children’s services).
