Senior Community Carer – HCRG Care Group

We are looking for an experienced, compassionate carer to deliver safe, high‑quality care to children with complex medical needs in their homes and the community. In this senior role you will mentor junior staff, support service development and work closely with families and multidisciplinary teams to provide personalised care.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver consistent, high‑quality care to children and young people with complex health needs following care plans and safeguarding procedures.
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with children, families and multidisciplinary colleagues, adjusting the approach where communication barriers exist.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and promptly raise concerns or changes in a child’s condition to the Clinical Case Manager.
  • Ensure the safe use and availability of clinical equipment, including ventilators, feeding pumps, oxygen monitors and other medical devices.
  • Develop and maintain advanced clinical competencies in tracheostomy care, ventilation, gastrostomy care and other complex procedures.
  • Administer medication safely and accurately, ensuring all care is documented.
  • Work independently as a lone worker, manage and prioritise workload while seeking guidance when required.
  • Provide mentorship, support and informal training to colleagues to uphold the high standard of care across the service.
  • Schedule: 24/7 service including night shifts, weekends and rotations throughout the year.

Essential Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Health or Social Care, or a recognised Nursery Nurse qualification.
  • Understanding of the impact of providing care for children with complex medical needs in their homes.
  • Experience working with children with additional or complex needs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build rapport and connect with children and families.
  • Full driving licence and access to a car for work purposes.
  • Minimum 1 year’s experience supporting children with complex health needs.
  • Minimum 1 year’s experience working with children in another setting (e.g., nursery, respite care, community service).

Desirable Qualifications

  • Willingness and ability to develop new theoretical and practical skills.
  • British Sign Language Level 1 or Makaton.
  • Experience supporting technology‑dependent children or carrying out relevant clinical procedures.
