Job Description:

A mainstream primary school in Eccles is seeking a committed and resilient SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team. The school supports primary aged pupils with autism and moderate to severe learning difficulties, providing a structured, nurturing and highly supportive SEN provision where every young person is encouraged to reach their full potential. The successful candidate will play an integral role in supporting pupils with complex additional needs, working closely with teachers and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver personalised academic, social and emotional support throughout the school day.

Key responsibilities

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support, adapting learning to meet individual needs
  • Supporting pupils with ASC, SEMH, and communication needs within a structured environment
  • Using communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or other AAC methods
  • Assisting with emotional regulation, behaviour management, and social development
  • Supporting the implementation of EHCPs, behaviour plans, and therapeutic strategies
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and support staff

Qualifications and other requirements

  • Have experience supporting children or young people with ASC, SEMH, or complex needs
  • Be calm, resilient, and proactive, with a nurturing and patient approach
  • Be confident supporting behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Have the right to work in the UK and full-time availability
  • PECS, Makaton, BSL or AAC training (desirable)
  • Level 2/3 Supporting Teaching & Learning qualification (desirable)
  • MAPA, Team‑Teach, or similar de‑escalation training (desirable)
