SEMH Tutor – Peterborough

About the role

A welcoming SEND provision in Peterborough is seeking a dedicated Tutor to provide tailored academic and pastoral support for children and young people across a range of age groups. The setting focuses on developing learners’ academic skills, independence, and confidence through personalised teaching approaches, clear structure, and nurturing learning environments. The role offers flexibility, with full-time and part-time opportunities available, and an ASAP start with the view of staying into the new academic year.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver and support differentiated, accessible learning sessions, adapting content to meet individual needs.
• Break down tasks, scaffold learning, and reinforce key concepts to support pupils with SEND in accessing the curriculum confidently.
• Use structured and supportive strategies, including visual resources, clear step-by-step explanations, modelling, and hands-on activities, to promote engagement and focus.
• Encourage positive learning behaviours through calm, consistent support, assisting pupils with emotional regulation and re-engaging them in learning when required.
• Build positive relationships to foster confidence, motivation, and enjoyment of learning.

Pre-requisites

• Experience supporting or delivering structured learning activities for children or young people through tutoring, schools, alternative provisions, care settings, clubs, or similar environments.
• A good understanding of special educational needs and the ability to adapt teaching and support strategies accordingly.
• Confidence using a range of teaching approaches, including clear explanations, modelling tasks, and maintaining learner engagement.
• Relevant training or qualifications such as Level 2 Teaching Assistant, Childcare, Youth Work, or equivalent hands-on experience.
