Job Description:

Fixed Term Contract for 2 years. Full Time – 37 hours: Mon, Tues, Thurs 8:15am – 4:00pm; Wed 8:15am – 5:00pm; Fri 8:15am – 3:45pm. Term Time Only + two weeks pay. Required to start 1st September 2026.

We are seeking a highly skilled, motivated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant Apprentice who is passionate about learning and inclusive practice. This dynamic role will contribute to maintaining high‑quality teaching and learning across our schools.

The Lumley Primary Federation is keen to develop a pro‑active apprentice with an ambitious “can‑do” mature approach to work and training. Your key role will be to provide support to teachers and qualified teaching assistants in classes across the school. The post will initially be based at Lumley Infant and Nursery School, but the successful candidate may be required to work at Lumley Junior School where the need arises.

Responsibilities

  • Attain the Level 3 qualification by attending tutorials and completing all assignments set.
  • Attend training sessions as appropriate, which may include off‑site training days.
  • Improve your own practice through observation of more experienced colleagues, participate in all training opportunities, coaching, working with a mentor, self‑evaluation and performance management, including the school’s training days.

Successful Applicants Will

  • Have experience of working with children in a primary school.
  • Be committed to developing an excellent understanding of a child’s development and learning.
  • Be pro‑active, enthusiastic, energetic and reliable.
  • Be fully committed to safeguarding and to supporting children’s social, emotional and academic development.
  • Converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English.
  • Hold a qualification that meets the approved “full and relevant” criteria for Early Years qualifications and inclusion in staffing ratios.

Benefits & Pay Calculation

  • Term time only plus two additional weeks’ pay is calculated on the basis of the following:– 38 teaching weeks– 1.6 weeks (8 days) public (bank) holidays– 2 additional weeks, inclusive of CPD– Individual leave entitlement of 5.4 weeks (27 days) for <5 years of service or 6.4 weeks (32 days) for ≥5 years of service.
  • Example calculation for <5 years of service: 40 weeks (term time + 2) + 27 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 47 weeks’ pay, paid in 12 equal monthly instalments.
  • Example calculation for ≥5 years of service: 40 weeks (term time + 2) + 32 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 48 weeks’ pay, paid in 12 equal monthly instalments.
