HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed 2D and 3D MEP drawings and models in accordance with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Develop and coordinate mechanical, electrical and public health services layouts for construction and installation.
  • Review and update technical drawings throughout the project lifecycle. Coordinate design information across MEP, civil, structural and architectural disciplines.
  • Identify and resolve clashes and interface issues using BIM and CAD software. Ensure all drawings, models and documentation comply with project standards, procedures and quality requirements.
  • Support design reviews, technical workshops and coordination meetings. Maintain accurate records and version control of design deliverables within the Common Data Environment (CDE).
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, subcontractors and construction teams to ensure design solutions are practical and buildable.
  • Assist in the preparation of as-built drawings and handover documentation.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior CAD technicians where required.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Significant experience as a CAD Technician within MEP, Building Services or Infrastructure projects.
  • Strong technical understanding of mechanical, electrical and public health systems.
  • Experience producing detailed engineering drawings and coordinated design deliverables.
  • Strong knowledge of BIM processes and multidisciplinary design coordination.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work to demanding project deadlines.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced, collaborative project environment.

Essential Qualifications & Skills

  • HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Building Services, CAD or a related discipline.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit.
  • Experience working with BIM workflows and Common Data Environments (CDE). Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Strong understanding of construction and infrastructure design processes.
