Polypipe Building Products focuses on delivering solutions to the residential sector, working with national and local developers, plumbing and heating engineers, general builders and groundworkers to provide above and below ground drainage systems, rainwater solutions and plastic plumbing products.
The Despatch Manager leads all warehouse and outbound logistics operations to ensure safe, efficient, and cost‑effective movement, storage and dispatch of goods, maintaining service excellence, inventory accuracy, legal compliance and continuous improvement across the warehouse and logistics activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Warehouse Operations ManagementOversee all inbound, storage, picking, packing and dispatch activities; deliver daily operational plans safely, efficiently and to agreed service levels; maintain high housekeeping and visual management standards; drive productivity and optimise warehouse flow and MHE utilisation.
- Logistics & DistributionManage outbound logistics, including loading and vehicle turnaround; coordinate with transport teams and carriers to achieve OTIF delivery; resolve delivery issues, escalations and customer concerns promptly.
- People Leadership & DevelopmentLead, coach and develop the leadership team; support performance management, conduct, wellbeing and engagement; oversee labour planning, skills matrices and resource deployment; conduct performance reviews, manage absence and ensure accurate HR data and payroll support. Foster a culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Absence & Attendance ManagementAdvise on absence processes, support return‑to‑work plans and monitor absence trends, escalating concerns where appropriate.
- Culture, Engagement & WellbeingPromote an inclusive, positive workplace culture; support engagement initiatives and internal communications.
- Inventory & Stock ControlMaintain inventory accuracy, oversee stock investigations, ensure accurate ERP/WMS transactions and stock control; reduce stock variances, out‑of‑stocks and delays.
- Performance Management & KPIsMonitor and drive KPIs including productivity, OTIF, stock accuracy, costs and damages.
- Continuous ImprovementLead CI initiatives (e.g. Kaizen, 5S) and improve operational performance; identify and resolve inefficiencies across safety, quality, service and cost.
- Stakeholder ManagementCollaborate with internal teams, manage external partners and suppliers.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- Proven warehouse/logistics management experience and strong leadership skills.
- Knowledge of warehouse safety, MHE, ERP/WMS and CI methodologies; IOSH/NEBOSH desirable.
