Advanced Engineering Solutions (AES) is a multi-disciplinary engineering company delivering on-site and workshop services to the water and gas utilities, nationally and internationally. AES is based in the North-East of England, 10 miles north of Newcastle‑upon‑Tyne and is part of a group of utility service companies owned by South Staffordshire plc.
The services provided by AES focus on maintaining and inspecting assets for transporting water and gas. Such assets include pipelines, gas pre‑heating equipment, compression, filtration, pumping and pressure reduction stations.
The Role
AES is a small but expanding business of about 30 people. The Gas Control Module (GCM) Technician will benefit from working in a close-knit team where a large amount of independent responsibility is delegated to staff and where colleagues are highly mutually supportive of each other.
We are looking for a mechanically‑minded Gas Control Module Technician to join our Cramlington workshop team. You’ll play a key role in maintaining gas control modules, equipment that regulates gas flow within underground network systems.
These modules (approx. 1m tall and 40kg) are returned to our workshop for full overhaul, repair, and testing. You’ll be responsible for bringing them back into service‑ready condition.
Key Responsibilities
- Disassemble, clean, repair, and reassemble gas control modules
- Carry out testing and fault‑finding to ensure operational performance
- Use a variety of hand tools and workshop machinery (e.g. drills, grinders, lathe)
- Maintain accurate records and follow written operating procedures
- Manage stock, ordering, tracking, and inventory control
- Contribute to maintaining a safe working environment
- Support wider AES operations when required, including:
- Forklift driving
- Pressure testing of gas assets
- Calibration of tools and equipment
What You’ll Need
- Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in hands‑on work
- Comfortable using tools and workshop equipment
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Problem‑solving mindset with the ability to diagnose issues
- Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently and use initiative
- Physically fit and able to be on your feet throughout the day
- Good organisational and administrative skills
- Clear communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to follow safety procedures and contribute to a safe workplace
Full training will be provided.
- Mechanical or engineering background
- Experience with workshop machinery
- Use of hand tools and mechanical equipment
- Abrasive wheels certification
Training & Development
