Introduction

We have an exciting opportunity for an apprentice to join our team based at Southmead Hospital, delivering centralised genomic testing for patients with cancer and rare disease. We are a large, well‑equipped, and friendly lab that values the experience new team members can bring to the role.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and process samples
  • Accurately prepare, maintain and document adequate supplies of reagents, consumables and plasticware
  • Prepare, extract, and store DNA and RNA from blood or other tissues
  • Participate in specimen reception/booking in and sample send‑away duties, including assisting with associated administrative and clerical duties in the laboratory
  • Prepare and process samples for cell culture
  • Process samples for FISH and G‑banding analysis

Training Outcome

Further progression opportunities may be offered subject to availability to degree‑level apprenticeships in Biomedical Science.

  • Essential – GCSE – English – C/4 or above (or equivalent)

Working Arrangements

Working Week: Monday to Friday with weekends/bank holidays on a rotational basis. Shifts to be confirmed.
