About the Role
As a Driver Technician Trainee 7.5t, you will be supported through a 3‑month trainee programme to become a fully qualified John Lewis Customer Delivery Technician with a C1 driving licence. Once trained, you will bring our distinctive service right to customers’ doors, installing products such as furniture, large appliances, sound systems and TVs as part of a 2‑person delivery crew. All applicants must be 18 or over by their start date.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as an ambassador for the John Lewis brand, making customer service your top priority.
- Perform daily checks and help load the vehicle with daily deliveries while collaborating with the warehouse team.
- Show great respect and courtesy for customers’ homes and handle unexpected situations to find the best possible solution.
- Install a range of products – including wall‑mounted TVs, integrated appliances and hard‑wired installations – and demonstrate how they work once installed.
- Keep up to date with new products and technologies to perform the role at your best.
- Adhere to all legal driving regulations, including the Working Time Directive and EU regulations, to maintain a safe working environment.
- Complete the 90‑day programme based on individual input and training needs.
- Heavy lifting is required; you will spend a lot of time delivering large items such as sofas, white goods, sports equipment, furniture, beds and mattresses.
Essential Skills / Experience You’ll Need
- UK B‑Category manual driving licence with no more than six points.
- Previous experience in a customer‑facing role.
- Great verbal communication skills both over the phone and in person.
- Good understanding of technology and an interest in installation.
Desirable Skills / Experience You May Have
- Prior experience in installation and customer delivery services.
- Previous role model or team leader experience.
