About the role
Our Customer Delivery Driver rate of pay starts from £14.18 an hour; this increases to £15.45 for stores inside the M25. Additional payments may also apply depending on location.
We offer a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours each week but can arrange fewer hours to a minimum of 12. We schedule within your availability windows and provide 3 weeks’ notice of shifts.
Availability windows:
- Sunday: 18:00–23:00
- Monday: 19:00–23:00
- Friday: 18:00–23:00
- Saturday: 13:00–23:00
Customers are at the heart of everything we do. As the face of Tesco on the road, you deliver journeys from Lands’ End to John O’Groats. This role is about more than driving; it is about helping others and delivering great service with a smile.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the van and trays are clean and organised.
- Keep the back yard tidy and clear of rubbish, picking up litter when seen.
- Wash trays as part of the tray wash process.
- Load the van and check it for roadworthiness.
- Communicate with customers about order changes, substitutions, or refunds.
- Treat products and deliveries as if they were your own.
- Explain that customers will not be charged for substitutions.
- Deliver during the customer’s time slot.
- Call customers before arriving if early.
- Contact the store/centre if running 30 or more minutes late.
Qualifications
- Build relationships with colleagues to create team spirit and support customer service.
- Be warm and welcoming in interactions with customers and colleagues.
- Respond quickly to changing customer needs and embrace change.
- Be energetic and driven to deliver beyond expectations.
- Share ideas with your manager and colleagues to improve the store.
- Hold a UK/EU/EEA driving licence (full or automatic) for at least 12 months with no more than 3 penalty points.
- Adhere to GB Domestic Driving Rules.
