Overview
As a Salaried GP you will be expected to undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations, telephone consultations, and visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions, doing triage, and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion. Your weekdays will include working Mondays and Fridays. You will also be required to undertake duty doctor sessions in proportion to your sessions at the practice.
The role includes NHS pension enrolment, robust induction and ongoing development opportunities, thorough probationary reviews and feedback, opportunities to develop processes/projects and support training, administrative support, and onsite parking. The practice operates from a fully equipped, purpose‑built premises with a substantial extension and refurbishment, and a local cottage hospital with a comprehensive OPD, physiotherapy, X‑ray and minor injuries unit.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform surgery consultations and telephone consultations.
- Visit patients at home and check and sign repeat prescriptions.
- Conduct triage and handle queries, paperwork, and correspondence.
- Participate in duty doctor sessions in proportion to practice sessions.
- Support practice development and process improvement projects.
- Collaborate closely with ARRS staff via the PCN and maintain high care standards for the community and care home patients.
Qualifications & Experience
- Hold full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) on the General Practitioner Register.
- MRCGP qualification.
- Knowledge of EMIS Web and primary care systems.
- Experience with information governance, care planning, and managing end‑of‑life (EOL) patients.
- Chronic disease and women’s health specialties, with the ability to lead within the team.
- Ability to work flexibly and manage workloads effectively.
- Friendly, positive attitude and patient‑centred focus.
- Commitment to the NHS, the team, the practice and the local community.
Practice Details
Lawton House Surgery is a well‑established and respected practice in the heart of Congleton with approximately 13,500 patients. The practice is part of the Congleton and Holmes Chapel PCN and works closely with NHS Cheshire and Merseyside ICB. It has 5 GP partners, 3 salaried GPs, 4 practice nurses, and 1 HCA, supported by a forward‑thinking practice management team.
The practice holds a Good rating with the CQC and is based on an EMIS Web framework utilising digital technologies such as Accrx and MyBotGP.
Legal & Regulatory Requirements
- Professional standing: Not prohibited from providing services due to regulation breaches (e.g., NHS Performers Lists Regulations).
- Not suspended from practice by the NHS or from the GMCs list of medical practitioners.
- Not subject to any interim suspension orders from the GMC under section 41A of the Medical Act 1983.
- Legal right to work in the UK.
- Disclosure and Barring Service Check required.
- Subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
