Role Summary
This post is appointed on a fixed‑term basis to provide structured training and supervised clinical development. The postholder will contribute to service delivery while gaining defined educational opportunities, supervised clinical practice, and experience aligned to the specialty training curriculum.
Main Responsibilities
- Sub‑investigator for phase 1–4 drug trials in neurodegenerative disease.
- Academic trials focusing on care for people with neurodegenerative disease.
- Participation in the Wessex Research Fellow training programme.
- Associate PI training scheme where available.
- On‑call inpatient work (neurology, stroke, neurosurgery and spine).
- Participation in audit and educational meetings within the department.

Qualifications, Training & Experience
- Essential:
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- GMC registration with licence to practise.
- MRCP or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a Foundation Programme and intermediate medical training programme.
- Additional experience in Neurology.
- Desirable:
- Postgraduate degree (e.g. BSc or higher). Undergraduate awards, GCP training, Advanced Life Support qualified.
- Previous experience in Neurology at ST 3 level (or equivalent).
- Experience of neurology outpatients’ clinics.
- Statistical or data‑based research experience.

Additional Information
Appointment will be under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust‑appointed fellows and dentists. Successful candidates will be supported with a named educational supervisor at the start of the post, and CPD opportunities are highly encouraged.
Salary will be based on experience and skills, in line with the National Medical and Dental pay circular.
Eligibility criteria for appointment to a Nodal Point 5 include:
- Minimum of 6 years of specialty training.
- Relevant higher specialty exam (e.g. FRCP, FRCA, FRCS).
- Portfolio of evidence meeting the criteria for progression, aligned with the curriculum for the speciality similar to deanery trainees.
