Overview

As a Base Manager you will manage, support, develop and inspire your team to achieve the best operational performance while promoting NPAS core values. As one of only 15 Base Managers in England & Wales, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of air support at both local and national levels.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a cross‑functional team, ensuring high performance and staff well‑being.
  • Operate in aircraft as a qualified Tactical Flight Officer, with full training and support provided.
  • Maintain operational standards and safety, using exemplary communication and situational awareness.
  • Coordinate with police service representatives at all levels, balancing national priorities with local needs.
  • Represent NPAS regionally and nationally, deputising for the line manager when required.
  • Travel to meetings across the region or country as necessary.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication, cooperation, leadership and situational awareness.
  • Understanding of police air operations and inter‑operability with the Civil Aviation Authority.
  • Ability to use the NPAS Operations Manual and apply it operationally.
  • Medical fitness for operational aviation, meeting the following conditions (must be medically cleared):
  • All of the following are required or must be medically manageable: epilepsy, vertigo, inner ear or tympanic membrane issues, musculoskeletal conditions that could be exacerbated by seating in harness, pregnancy, recent surgical recovery, etc.
  • Medications that might be contraindicated for flying, including long‑term antibiotics, sleeping tablets, antidepressants, centrally acting medications, stimulants, antihistamines, antihypertensives, analgesics, combination medications, and blood thinners.

Selection Process

The role requires no previous aviation knowledge or flight experience. Candidates must pass a series of assessments to reach the required standard for all TFO and Base Manager positions.

  2. Aircrew aptitude testing – date to be confirmed.
  3. Interview and group assessments.
  4. TFO training course.
