Deputy Director of Diagnostics and Cancer

Reporting directly to the Director of Planned Care and Improvement, the Deputy Director will lead on the delivery of the Diagnostics and Cancer strategy and operations at a regional level, working in collaboration with system coordination teams, regional colleagues, and national teams to ensure performance standards are met.

Responsibilities

• Work with regional and system colleagues and other ALBs and national teams to ensure Diagnostics and Cancer performance standards are met and services deliver high quality outcomes.
• Support a system approach to improvement in elective recovery services, using assets from across the system to improve outcomes, experience and efficiency.
• Assist in planning and delivering services that meet operational planning and constitutional commitments.
• Analyze performance against a variety of measures and identify strategies and interventions to support necessary improvements at organisational and system levels.
• Develop structures and processes to support sustainable delivery of high quality elective services across East of England.
• Ensure the strategy is formulated, understood, and delivered efficiently, with structured improvement approaches in elective recovery.
• Manage key risks and issues, monitor progress, and ensure accountability for achieving agreed timescales.
• Manage the budgetary implications of activity and promote relationships with key stakeholders.
• Maintain a hybrid working model, with at least 40% of time spent in-person and attendance at monthly face‑to‑face meetings.

Qualifications and Experience

• Demonstrable experience of working with Acute Hospital Providers and ICBs at provider, system, or regional level, preferably in Diagnostics and cancer.
• Ability to act as subject matter expert for Diagnostics and cancer care with regional colleagues, ICBs, and wider systems.
• Experience delivering improvement in national constitutional and planning standards for Diagnostics and Cancer.
• Experience holding executive management teams to account for delivering improvement in performance standards.

Knowledge

• Comprehensive understanding of NHS national and regional strategy/programmes for Diagnostics and Cancer.

Skills

• Excellent data analysis skills, with the ability to present complex data clearly.
• Highly developed communication skills for handling complex matters and challenging situations.

Additional Information

• Applicants from within the NHS will be offered on a secondment basis only. Agreement must be obtained from the employer prior to submitting the application.
• Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.
