Job Summary

Senior Lawyer – Banking Products (Cash Management & Payments). Salary: £111,809 – £131,540. Locations: Edinburgh, Bristol, Cardiff, Chester, Halifax, and Leeds. Full‑time, hybrid working (minimum of two days per week at an office).

About this Opportunity

The role supports the cash management and payments business within the Banking Products team across Business & Commercial Banking (BCB) and Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB). It requires legal expertise in payment and deposit products, drafting and negotiating commercial agreements and advising on regulatory and industry frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on the legal and regulatory aspects of cash management and payments solutions.
  • Drafter and review terms and conditions for new and existing payables, receivables, deposits/accounts, liquidity and digital products and services.
  • Provide legal insight into end‑to‑end customer journeys and identify ways to mitigate legal risk.
  • Negotiate tailored arrangements with customers.
  • Support business partners with tender reviews and submissions.
  • Provide legal support for the delivery of projects including innovation, product development, rectifications and regulatory change.
  • Assist with the development of policy and procedures.
  • Collaborate with product, sales, relationship and delivery teams to develop and deliver new solutions or change initiatives.
  • Influence strategy in relevant areas of legal, regulatory and industry change with a focus on payment services.
  • Work on supplier or third‑party arrangements for new or enhanced products.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with external stakeholders, trade associations, industry peers, external lawyers and internal teams such as Risk and Compliance.
  • Identify knowledge gaps and deliver and organise training for the team and business partners.
  • Reflect on service delivery and seek continuous improvement opportunities.

What You’ll Need

  • UK qualified lawyer with significant experience in financial services, specifically payments and transaction banking.
  • Deep understanding of Payment Services Regulations and Consumer Duty.
  • Knowledge of BCOBS, KYL/AML and ringfencing.
  • Experience in customer and/or commercial contracts and related negotiations.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new legal and technological developments.
  • Strong influencing and communication skills, ideally with experience engaging regulators and industry bodies.
  • Proven track record of delivering legal advice in complex, cross‑functional environments.
  • Experience collaborating with clients, business partners and internal teams to deliver solutions in a regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of digital assets/tokenised deposits is an advantage.
  • Interest in developing others and being part of a collaborative team.
  • Capability to manage a busy workload and competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
