About The Role
This post reports to Principal Engineer level and leads on the delivery of schemes within the LATS (Local Active Travel and Safety) programme of works, and Technical Approval of individual schemes being carried out by other sections of the Council.
What We Are Looking For
- Significant experience of all stages of highway work from feasibility studies through to preparation of contract documentation, and demonstrable experience of site supervision.
- Significant experience in Active Travel and Highway Design, with an excellent knowledge of Highway Design Standards and Guidance (including TSRGD, Traffic Signs Manual, LTN 1/20, DMRB & Manual for Streets 2).
- Proven ability in the delivery of both multi‑million pound and small‑scale schemes to programme and within budget.
- A good knowledge of contract management for active travel and highway improvement schemes.
- Strong understanding of the Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) process and statutory consultation procedures.
- A good knowledge of health and safety legislation, including CDM.
- Understanding of data collection, analysis and interpretation (e.g., traffic counts, speed surveys).
- Experience and understanding of all stages of road safety audits.
- Carrying out site visits and surveys.
- Experience in providing technical advice to internal teams, elected members and other stakeholders.
- Providing support to junior members of the team.
