Assistant Clinical Director (Dentistry) – Overview

We are seeking an experienced and inspirational dentist to serve as Assistant Clinical Director (Dentistry) at Oxfordshire Community Dental Service. The role is full‑time and based at our headquarters in Oxford. You will work alongside the Clinical Director to lead a multidisciplinary team, drive service improvement, champion clinical governance, and support the delivery of outstanding care for patients with complex needs, including paediatric, special care, and urgent dental services.

Responsibilities

  • Deputise for the Clinical Director in leadership and management of the service across a range of sites and settings.
  • Assist with the strategic provision of oral and dental healthcare for the Trust and work to reduce health inequalities in the population.
  • Oversee all clinical dental performers in the service, managing contracts and service level agreements with secondary care providers (e.g., general anaesthesia, medical physics).
  • Maintain an effective senior clinical role and provide clinical sessions for special care and paediatric patients as appropriate.
  • Provide professional and clinical advice to colleagues, service users, Boards, Committees, and other stakeholders.
  • Deliver teaching and training to dental staff as required.
  • Continue to maintain an active clinical role to remain connected with patient care.

Qualifications

  • Significant clinical experience as a dentist.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and a collaborative approach.
  • Excellent communication skills.
