Responsibilities
- Lead and attend general respiratory clinics and cancer clinics at the main acute site and selected community hospitals.
- Participate in the weekly specialty ward rota (in-hours only) at University Hospital of North Durham and join the unselected medical on‑call rota on the Acute Medical Unit.
- Perform and supervise key procedures such as bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), pleural ultrasound and pleural interventions on acute sites and the medical day units.
- Provide expert clinical opinion in both emergency and elective settings, offering supervisor support to trainees and non‑consultant staff.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings for lung cancer, SLN (secondary malignancy) and interstitial lung disease, and liaison with regional home ventilation and difficult asthma services.
- Engage in audit and research activities, supporting academic and educational roles within the department where appropriate.
Qualifications
- Full and specialist registration with the GMC (Licence to Practice).
- Holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Respiratory Medicine, or within six months of achieving CCT at the time of interview.
- Or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) in Respiratory Medicine.
- Proven experience in lung cancer investigation, management and teaching within a clinical setting.
- Demonstrated competence in bronchoscopy, pleural ultrasound and related procedures.
- Strong NHS management skills, able to organise own work and delegate appropriately.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience supervising trainees and conducting clinical audit.
- Evidence of using the clinical evidence base to support decision making.
