Job Description:

Lead Software Engineer – Cloud Modernisation & Credit & Verification Services – hybrid role (travel to Nottingham 2 days a week).

Responsibilities

  • Drive the design, development, and delivery of cloud-native microservices and web applications using the latest technologies and architectural patterns.
  • Lead an agile team to deliver high-quality software solutions within agreed timelines, ensuring alignment with business requirements and agile principles.
  • Own overall technical architecture, ensuring scalability, performance, security, and maintainability of the software systems.
  • Champion best practices in software development, including clean code, maintainability, efficient coding standards and DevSecOps practices.
  • Collaborate closely with product owners, designers, QA, and other stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery and alignment with business objectives.
  • Lead technical discussions, decision-making processes, and architectural reviews, ensuring alignment with standards, long‑term strategy and business goals.
  • Identify and manage technical risks, develop mitigation strategies and provide clear, concise documentation for code, processes, and system architecture.
  • Mentor senior and junior developers, providing technical expertise, code reviews, and fostering a passion for technology and innovation.

Required Technical Skills & Knowledge

  • Hands‑on experience with .NET 6+ (or .NET Core / .NET Framework) building scalable, maintainable and performant REST/SOAP/RPC APIs with microservice or SOA architectures using ASP.NET and C#.
  • Proficient in writing unit and integration tests with xUnit or NUnit, Test‑Driven Development (TDD) and Behaviour‑Driven Development (BDD).
  • Experience with mocking frameworks, high‑level and low‑level design documentation, and conducting code reviews.
  • Strong understanding of architectural principles, clean architecture, SOLID, OOP, design patterns, concurrency, and static code analysis/vulnerability management.
  • Proficient in SQL or NoSQL databases, Entity Framework, and data modelling for performance and scalability.
  • Experience with source control (git/Bitbucket/GitHub/GitLab) and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) practices.
  • Experience in regulated environments, building secure, mission‑critical, high‑volume transaction web‑based systems.

Useful Skills

  • Knowledge of GEN AI tools for coding.
  • Experience with Python, Scala or big data frameworks (Spark) and batch processing.
  • Public cloud knowledge or certifications, preferably AWS.
  • Experience with streaming, messaging, event‑bus technologies (Kafka, EventBridge, Kinesis, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, etc.) to build event‑driven architecture.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, AWS CloudFormation or CDK.
  • Experience working with geographically distributed teams.
