Principal Civil Engineer

As a Principal Civil Engineer, you’ll take a leading role in the technical delivery of civil design projects, guiding a talented engineering team and ensuring excellence across every stage of design and construction. This role offers the chance to shape high-profile projects, influence strategy, and contribute to the sustainable development of essential water infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the civil design and delivery of water and wastewater treatment projects.
  • Produce and review technical reports, specifications, and construction drawings.
  • Undertake design calculations and analysis using appropriate industry software.
  • Coordinate civil design with mechanical, electrical, and process engineering disciplines.
  • Conduct site visits, inspections, and provide technical support during construction.
  • Mentor junior engineers, review deliverables, and maintain technical quality.
  • Support business development through input into bids, proposals, and client engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with UK standards, health and safety legislation, and quality procedures.

Qualifications

  • 8 Years’ Experience
  • BEng/MEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards professional status (ICE/IStructE/CIWEM).
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience delivering civil engineering designs in the UK water sector.
  • Excellent leadership, mentoring, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficient in design tools such as Tekla, TEDDS, STAAD, or AutoCAD.
  • Strong understanding of UK design codes, Eurocodes, and water industry standards.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel when required.
