To deliver our new strategic plan – Our Wild Sussex – we need people with bold and innovative ideas to help us achieve our ambitions for local wildlife and wild places. We are committed to restoring and protecting at least 30% of Sussex land and sea for nature, inspiring one in four people to take meaningful action for wildlife, building a stronger, more inclusive and diverse organisation, and becoming a net zero and climate‑resilient organisation.
We are looking for talented people to join our team and help us deliver this ambitious strategy. We welcome applicants who have the potential to grow into the role even if they don’t have every skill listed.
The Role
This role is funded by the Wild About Inclusion National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) Project. The project provides Sussex Wildlife Trust (SWT) with a dedicated individual who will project‑manage the Wild About Inclusion NLHF project and oversee the Trust‑wide Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) action plan. This includes working across all Directorates to embed inclusive practice throughout the organisation and supporting engagement with diverse communities to co‑create community engagement plans that broaden participation and make nature accessible to all.
The Person
We need a passionate advocate for equity, diversity and inclusion who can embed inclusive practice into the core operations of SWT in a meaningful and sustainable way. Knowledge of Sussex communities, and of the social, cultural and geographical factors that shape access and participation across the county, would be valuable. Experience with similar communities and settings elsewhere is welcome. We especially welcome applications from people under‑represented in our sector, including disabled people and people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds. If you have relevant transferable skills or lived experience, we encourage you to apply.
