Shape the Future of Advanced Maritime Engineering

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Mechanical / Structural Engineer to join a highly respected engineering and technology organisation working at the forefront of advanced maritime and defence innovation.

This role offers the chance to contribute to the design, analysis, testing, and development of complex engineering systems operating in some of the world’s most demanding environments. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in delivering technically challenging projects that support critical national capability programmes.

If you’re passionate about structural engineering, complex mechanical design, and solving difficult engineering problems, this could be the next step in your career.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Mechanical / Structural Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across the full engineering lifecycle, from concept development through detailed design, analysis, testing, and production support.

You’ll work on sophisticated multi-material structures and assemblies, applying advanced engineering principles to ensure designs meet stringent performance, safety, and regulatory requirements.

This is a hands‑on technical role that combines engineering excellence with mentoring responsibilities and project delivery leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and structural assessment of complex mechanical systems and assemblies
  • Perform engineering analysis, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA), to support design decisions
  • Break down complex technical challenges and deliver practical engineering solutions
  • Support project planning, work package definition, and technical delivery activities
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering teams and stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with industry, regulatory, and organisational standards
  • Contribute to design reviews, governance activities, and technical assurance processes
  • Mentor and support the development of junior engineers
  • Identify opportunities for innovation, capability growth, and continuous improvement
  • Promote safe working practices throughout project delivery

About You

We’re looking for an experienced engineer who combines strong technical expertise with sound engineering judgement and a collaborative approach.

  • Strong background in mechanical and structural engineering
  • Experience designing and analysing complex engineering structures
  • Proficiency in Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • Experience with metallic and composite materials
  • Strong understanding of engineering design and manufacturing principles
  • Knowledge of relevant safety and regulatory frameworks
  • CAD experience, ideally using Siemens NX and/or SolidWorks
  • Experience working to recognised industry standards within highly regulated environments
  • Ability to lead technical activities and influence project outcomes

Qualifications

  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related engineering discipline
  • Equivalent industry experience will also be considered

Why Apply?

This is a chance to work on genuinely unique engineering programmes within a world-class technical environment, alongside experts in mechanical design, structural analysis, testing, and advanced technology development.

You’ll benefit from:

  • Challenging and meaningful engineering projects
  • State-of-the-art testing and development facilities
  • Excellent opportunities for career progression and professional development
  • Hybrid working arrangements
  • Competitive salary and benefits package
  • The opportunity to make a tangible impact on nationally important programmes

Security Requirements

Due to the nature of the work, applicants must be eligible to obtain Security Clearance (SC) as a minimum standard.
