Overview
The Caterpillar Technology team in the UK offers engineering roles focused on integrating electronic control systems across Caterpillar products. This work drives machine automation, improves productivity, and enhances serviceability for construction machines and other off‑highway equipment.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop and integrate embedded electronic control systems for construction and mining equipment.
- Control and monitor all aspects of machine operation, including engines, transmissions, electric powertrains, hydraulic systems and operator interfaces.
- Develop human‑machine interfaces with operator controls and information displays.
- Implement diagnostic, prognostic and communication systems using J1939 CAN, Ethernet and other vehicle network protocols.
- Perform technical troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis for hardware, software and application issues.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to produce and analyze system requirements.
- Use analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills to propose and implement effective solutions.
Qualifications and Experience
- Proven experience in off‑highway machine control or comparable automotive, marine or military vehicle control systems.
- Strong knowledge of embedded systems architecture and development.
- Experience with NI test bench tools such as LabVIEW or Veristand.
- Hands‑on experience with J1939 CAN, Ethernet, and related vehicle networks.
- Familiarity with Vector CANape, CANalyzer or equivalent analysis tools.
- Solid skills in requirements analysis, using industry tools and techniques.
- Effective communication of complex technical concepts to technical and non‑technical audiences.
