Responsibilities
- Lead and support Functional Safety activities across vehicle systems and embedded electronic control systems
- Provide technical guidance on ISO 26262 compliance across: System level, Hardware level, Software level, Production and operational safety activities
- Contribute hands‑on to Functional Safety work products in accordance with ISO 26262 Parts 4, 5, and 6
- Support development and implementation of safety lifecycle processes and best practices
- Perform safety analysis and derive: Functional Safety Requirements (FSR), Technical Safety Requirements (TSR), Hardware Safety Requirements (HSR), Software Safety Requirements (SSR)
- Develop: Functional Safety Concepts (FSC), Technical Safety Concepts (TSC)
- Support Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA) activities
- Define safety mechanisms and monitoring concepts for embedded automotive systems
- Develop function monitoring strategies aligned to industry safety standards and architectures
- Support System Architects in defining robust system architectures for electrified and embedded vehicle systems
- Collaborate with software and hardware architecture teams to ensure safety requirements are fully integrated into product design
- Support creation of detailed product requirement and mechanisation documentation
- Evaluate stakeholder and customer requirements and translate them into safety‑compliant system definitions
- Support generation of safety compliance verification and validation plans
- Collaborate with verification teams to ensure traceability between hazards, safety goals, requirements, and test activities
- Participate in safety audits, assessments, and gap analysis activities
- Support generation and maintenance of safety case documentation and compliance evidence
- Work closely with: Systems Engineering teams, Software and Hardware teams, Verification & Validation teams, Vehicle integration teams, External suppliers and global engineering stakeholders
- Support issue resolution and technical reviews relating to safety compliance and system behaviour
- Mentor and guide junior engineers in Functional Safety processes and methodologies where required
Requirements
- Degree or equivalent experience in Automotive Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related discipline
- Strong understanding of automotive embedded systems and safety‑critical development processes
- Functional Safety certification or ISO 26262 training is advantageous
- Strong experience applying ISO 26262 across automotive embedded systems and safety‑critical development programmes
- Proven capability developing and managing: HARA, Functional Safety Concepts (FSC), Technical Safety Concepts (TSC), Functional, Technical, Hardware, and Software Safety Requirements (FSR/TSR/HSR/SSR), Safety verification and validation activities, Safety case documentation and gap analysis
- Strong understanding of: Embedded control systems, Real‑time systems, ECU architectures, Automotive electrical/electronic systems, Functional safety lifecycle processes
- Experience supporting safety activities across: Electrified powertrain systems, Vehicle control systems, HV systems, Inverters, DC‑DC converters, Battery management systems, On‑board chargers, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) systems
- Understanding of: Microcontrollers, ASICs, Embedded hardware/software interaction, Safety monitoring strategies, AUTOSAR and embedded software safety architectures
- Familiarity with: Model‑based systems engineering, Structured automotive V‑cycle development, Requirements traceability and compliance management
- Experience using engineering and requirements management tools such as: DOORS, JIRA, Confluence, Requirements traceability tools
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and stakeholder management capability
- Ability to lead technical discussions and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams, suppliers, and global stakeholders
- Experience working within: Automotive propulsion, Vehicle dynamics, Electrification, High‑performance automotive, Advanced engineering or R&D environments
