Company Description

Axle Energy is an Accel-backed, £8M+ seed-stage startup building the “Stripe for energy flexibility” through global B2B API infrastructure.

Job Description

As a generalist Software Engineer at Axle Energy, you will build the core infrastructure connecting distributed energy devices to electricity markets. Working across product, devops, and data engineering, you’ll join a tight-knit team of 15 to orchestrate thousands of assets like EVs and home batteries to accelerate the global energy transition.

Location

London, UK

Why this role is remarkable

  • Ownership & Impact: Step into the arena against climate change by building the plumbing for a decarbonized grid, controlling tens of thousands of energy assets.
  • Elite Backing: Backed by Accel with £8M+ raised, you will work alongside technical founders with Oxford PhDs in a fast-paced, flat-structure environment.
  • Complex Engineering: Tackle hard technical challenges across the full VPP stack, including device integration, real-time control, and ML-driven grid optimization.

What You Will Do

  • Build and maintain the core infrastructure that connects distributed energy devices like EVs and heat pumps to electricity markets.
  • Design and deploy scalable Python backends on GCP to handle real-time control, market dispatch, and grid-aware optimization algorithms.
  • Collaborate directly with founders and clients to iterate on the API infrastructure that enables third-party device participation in energy markets.

The ideal candidate

  • Proven production experience shipping B2B SaaS products using Python backends and cloud platforms like GCP or similar.
  • A track record of solving deep technical problems in distributed systems, complex integrations, or high-traffic data pipelines at a scaling startup.
  • Deep-seated motivation to combat climate change and the courage to build fast, prioritizing real-world environmental impact over technical perfection.
