Library Role-playing Game Facilitator (Bulwell Library)

We are looking for confident and enthusiastic volunteers to help run tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) sessions in our libraries. We’d like you to have working knowledge of at least one TTRPG gaming system, e.g. Dungeons and Dragons, and be able to lead a two-hour session every week (Mondays 2-5pm).

Why we want you

We are looking for Volunteer Role-playing Game Facilitators to help us run game sessions in libraries. The volunteer will act as a host for the session, preparing the game and supporting players, encouraging active participation and inclusive storytelling.

All applicants will be invited to an informal chat to discuss the role with the Library Officer before applications are progressed.

The sessions are at Bulwell Library every Monday from 2-5 pm.

What you will be doing

  • Lead the session, with an additional 30 minutes to set up materials and pack away afterwards
  • Lead game sessions, acting as storyteller and narrator for world, plot and events that players interact with in the game world.
  • Prepare and deliver interactive stories adapted from modules within the chosen RPG systems (materials provided).
  • Explain games rules, ensuring fair and consistent play for all participants.
  • Facilitate gameplay between participants by helping encourage participation and teamwork between players.
  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive and imaginative space for library users in the gaming group
  • Collaborate with players to accommodate individual preferences and playstyles, with sensitivity to potential triggers and personal comfort.

The skills you need

  • Patience and empathy for newcomers to the hobby
  • Be inclusive, friendly, and enthusiastic
  • Working knowledge of at least one TTRPG system and the ability to run it confidently
  • Ability to foster creativity in players and support player driven storytelling
  • Organisational skills to manage game materials and track game progression
  • Clear and confident communication to guide players, explain rules and maintain the flow of gameplay
  • Able to commit to regular volunteering
