Apply for the Software Engineer (Test & Verification)
Location: Bicester
Job Description:

Evolito’s mission is to accelerate the adoption of electric propulsion in aerospace applications in support of a net‑zero world. We will help to revolutionise personal mobility and transform our towns and cities with clean, noise‑free air transportation.

Evolito develops and manufactures class‑leading, lightweight, high‑power, and high‑torque‑density electric propulsion systems for a range of aerospace markets, including EVTOL, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and General Aviation. As well as ultra‑high performance, low‑weight electric motors and controllers, Evolito specialises in high‑integrity, bespoke battery systems for the aerospace and defence markets. The team is scaling rapidly and has ambitious growth plans over the next twelve to eighteen months.

Role Overview

As part of our current high‑growth phase, we are seeking a Test & Verification Software Engineer to join us to be responsible for defining and delivering the test rig control and DAQ software. Reporting to our Head of Test, you will be responsible for ensuring product quality and manufacturing effectiveness, as well as driving continuous improvement initiatives and developing robust, scalable test solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble test software configurations, involving installation and maintenance of mechanical assemblies, electrical equipment up to 1500Vdc, water and oil coolant systems, instrumentation hardware, communication hardware (e.g. CAN) and pneumatic equipment.
  • Set up test control system configuration in accordance with the test requirements.
  • Develop software in LabVIEW for electro‑mechanical test benches.
  • Develop bespoke custom devices in LabVIEW for NI VeriStand for the HiL dynamometer test benches.
  • Apply knowledge of test rig control systems such as dynos, vibration/shakers, EMC and HALT/HASS chambers to support testing of electrical motors, controllers and electric drive systems.
  • Follow pre‑test assessment processes to ensure test readiness covering technical, operational and safety considerations.
  • Support engineers in creating test cases and procedures for conducting tests.
  • Conduct pre‑defined data analysis and use pre‑existing analysis tools (e.g. MATLAB & Python scripts).
  • Build and modify wiring harnesses and other electrical assemblies for test instrumentation (e.g. looms, connectors, crimping and related assembly tasks).
  • Lead laboratory equipment software maintenance and calibration.
  • Identify and feed back potential rig design improvements to the wider team.
  • Prioritise safety actions over other tasks and be mindful of the potential safety implications of all testing activities.
  • Document laboratory procedures and safe systems of work.
  • Support cross‑functional activities with software, controls and hardware electronics teams.
  • Author technical and project documentation (Request for Quotation, Scope of Work, Statement of Work) for delivery of complex test systems in a production environment.
  • Own and track CAPEX for assigned projects to ensure delivery on time and within cost.
  • Support the data storage and management strategy for production test equipment, ensuring integration as required with third‑party software (MES, test control software, data processing software).
  • Define and track all design and functional requirements of the test equipment in your domain, including areas of Hardware, Software, Data Management and H&S.
  • Plan and conduct verification testing of new equipment and facilities during commissioning phases.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronic Engineering, or equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • Certified LabVIEW Developer or Architect, with experience in AF, DQMH, OOP, and UML design.
  • Experience with dynamometers and production test equipment for electric motors.
  • Knowledge of data management systems and integration of third‑party software.
  • Experience delivering production test equipment using structured requirements management tools (e.g. PTC Codebeamer).
  • Working knowledge of H&S standards for production equipment and high‑voltage electrical systems.
  • Ability to compile complex project documentation to align internal and external stakeholders (e.g. Statements of Work).
  • Ability to innovate and develop new methods of test control and instrumentation.
  • Experience using MATLAB or NI tools for test data analysis, including custom scripting.
  • Ability to apply aerospace design processes to production test equipment definition and delivery.
  • Strong hands‑on approach to test setup, instrumentation, data acquisition, commissioning, and verification.
  • Strong analytical, reasoning, and troubleshooting skills, with good engineering judgement.
  • Flexible, proactive, and able to manage competing priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams.
  • UK driving licence and willingness to travel.

Desirable

  • Experience in testing of motors, MCUs or other powertrain systems.
  • Experience working within a Tier1 engineering environment.
