Community Mental Health Practitioner – Eating Disorders
Central and East Eating Disorders Service is a team based at Northgate hospital in Great Yarmouth and The Lighthouse at Hellesdon Hospital in Norwich. The team supports children, young people and their families who are living with eating disorders and helps them to recovery.
Your role will involve holding a caseload of young people with a diagnosable eating disorder, providing evidence‑based therapeutic interventions for them and their families, following evidence‑based models to support your practice, undertaking assessments of new referrals, monitoring physical health, and coordinating the care of young people on the caseload.
You will be part of a diverse and active MDT, supporting young people and their families through recovery. There is a strong emphasis on systemic work; skills in working with families as well as the young person are key.
Main duties of the job
- Hold a caseload of children and young people and see them weekly for appointments.
- Liaise with other professionals within the team and externally to coordinate care.
- Complete assessments of new referrals to the service.
- Attend MDT meetings for young people on your caseload.
- Work closely with families and other professionals to support the best outcome for young people.
- Monitor physical health and escalating care in line with MEED guidelines.
- Complete allocated duty tasks on your duty day.
- Keep comprehensive and contemporaneous clinical documentation.
- Work as part of an MDT.
Job responsibilities
We expect a proactive, compassionate, and motivated individual with transferable skills or experience of working in the community with children and young people. Possessing an interest in children and young people with an eating disorder is essential.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Registered Mental Health or Learning Disability Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Social Worker with the relevant professional registration.
- Recognised Leadership/Management training.
Knowledge
- Understanding of local and national policies and guidelines, e.g. NICE guidelines.
Experience
- Appropriate level of knowledge of mental health practice from previous experience.
- Experience working in a team delivering person‑centred treatment packages.
- Experience in delivering clinical interventions and group‑based interventions.
