Role Summary

This 12 month fixed term, part‑time (22.5 hours/week) role offers the opportunity to provide clinical leadership and specialist physiotherapy expertise to patients admitted with a new diagnosis or relapse of a neurological condition, patients post‑neurosurgery, and those presenting with acute medical illness. The post holder will also play a key role in the management of people living with Parkinson’s disease and older adults admitted under the Health of Older People (HfOP) service. Working closely with the Team Lead Occupational Therapists, the post holder will help deliver a high‑quality, interdisciplinary inpatient service and will provide specialist clinical expertise to neurology and medical patients who are out‑lined to other wards, ensuring continuity and quality of care across the Trust.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied and complex caseload, including patients with a wide range of impairments and functional deficits following acute deterioration or new presentation.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessment and develop and deliver individualised acute rehabilitation plans.
  • Coordinate closely with the multidisciplinary team to support safe and timely discharge or onward referral within the patient pathway.
  • Manage acute respiratory presentations and tracheostomy care for postsurgical patients.
  • Lead and support a team of rotational Band5 physiotherapists, students and support staff, taking responsibility for induction, training, supervision and ongoing competency development.
  • Prioritise caseload effectively, maintain a strong evidence base in line with national guidance, and contribute to service monitoring using outcomes such as patient satisfaction data.
  • Support wider Therapy Department responsibilities and other wards when required.
  • Participate in on‑call, weekend and bank holiday working as part of the rota.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Band6 Physiotherapist with relevant experience and a proven track record in acute neurology and medicine.
  • Strong clinical leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience managing complex physiotherapy caseloads, including neurological and respiratory conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement individualised rehabilitation plans and to supervise junior staff.

Working Pattern

Wednesday – Friday 08:15 – 16:30 (Weekends, bank holidays and on‑calls on a rota basis)
