Job overview

The University Hospitals Sussex values its pharmacy team and offers a role for a specialist clinical pharmacist in renal medicine. The post holder will provide leadership and specialist pharmacy services to optimise patient outcomes and improve the patient experience across renal in‑ and out‑patients.

Main duties of the job

As the lead clinical pharmacist, you will:

  • Deliver direct patient care to renal in‑ and out‑patients, including clinical management of the haemodialysis unit and outpatient clinics for drug initiation and monitoring.
  • Attend weekly multidisciplinary meetings/ward rounds for renal to maximise pharmaceutical input into patient care.
  • Manage the pharmacy service to renal medicine and support all aspects of clinical governance within the directorate.
  • Lead specialities specified by the lead divisional pharmacist, including clinical risk, audit, education and teaching.
  • Manage, supervise and provide teaching to junior staff and supervise undergraduate or junior pharmacist projects.
  • Provide expert clinical advice and counselling on medication regimens, high‑risk drugs, and discharge processes.
  • Collaborate with community and care home colleagues to support medicines adherence.
  • Engage in clinical risk management, audit, and multi‑disciplinary reviews.
  • Participate in the weekend rota.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Registered Pharmacist with postgraduate qualification at specialist level.
  • Post‑graduate clinical pharmacy diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPC).
  • Postgraduate Masters or Doctorate in a relevant subject or discipline.
  • Member of the Faculty of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.
  • Teaching experience at undergraduate or postgraduate level.
  • Renal pharmacy experience.
