Position Overview

Commencing October 2026, or April 2027, these posts are equivalent to a Specialty Registrar Level 8 or a post CCT Fellow in Colorectal Surgery. The posts are recognised for higher surgical training and will be banded at Band 1A on a 1:8 rota in St Mark’s.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily ward rounds and management of ward patients.
  • Contribution to clinics, MDTs, and an active role in the operating theatre.
  • Cover a 1:8 rota in St Mark’s and a very small contribution to the EGS rota at Northwick Park (1:48).
  • Rotate or specialise in one of the specialist firms: Robotic Cancer surgery, Complex Cancer Surgery, Intestinal Failure/Abdominal Wall, Pelvic Floor, IBD.
  • Gain experience in advanced proctology, AIN and pilonidal disease where applicable.

Qualifications & Eligibility

  • FRCS, or overseas equivalent, at the end of colorectal sub‑speciality training.
  • Open to candidates holding an FRCS or an equivalent qualification.

Posting Details

  • Resident Surgical Officer / Fellow (RSO/Fellow) posts – 9 positions.
  • Tenable for six months, extendable to a further six months.
  • Specific roles include: two Complex Cancer (some robotics), two primary Cancer (one purely robotic, one mixed), one intestinal failure and abdominal wall (with robotics), three IBD (one robotic, others complex/advanced).
  • Roles may rotate through up to two specialist firms each six‑month period.

Training & Exposure

Exceptional tertiary referral practice in colorectal subspecialty with opportunities to gain in‑depth diagnosis and management experience of rare colorectal conditions.
