Our client is seeking an Environmental Project Support Trainee to join an 8‑week, full‑time paid placement based in Swindon.
This opportunity is designed for early‑career candidates who are interested in sustainability, environmental improvement, procurement, and the journey to net zero. The placement offers practical experience within a corporate sustainability team, supporting workstreams focused on emissions reduction, sustainable procurement, waste, travel, change management, and digital operations.
The successful candidate will gain hands‑on experience in sustainable procurement practices, desk‑based research, stakeholder engagement, and data analysis. This is an excellent opportunity to develop employability skills, build sector knowledge, and contribute to meaningful sustainability‑focused work.
The role will initially be office‑based in Swindon five days per week. There may be an opportunity for hybrid working later in the placement, depending on business needs.
Responsibilities
As an Environmental Project Support Trainee, you will:
- Work with live or recent tender examples to create case studies and demonstrations showing how procurement can support sustainability goals
- Carry out primarily desk‑based research on sustainable supply chain policies
- Summarise research findings for presentation to internal stakeholders
- Support benchmarking activity by comparing sustainable supply chain approaches used by similar organisations
- Assist with data collection and analysis relating to procurement spend, supplier sustainability information, or carbon impacts, where appropriate
- Attend team meetings and stakeholder discussions to develop insight into procurement operations and sustainability priorities
- Contribute to innovative work in sustainable procurement, an area that continues to develop across many sectors
- Gain exposure to wider organisational sustainability work and environmental improvement initiatives
The placement may include attendance at:
- A welcome event for all trainees
- Weekly team meetings
- Stakeholder meetings across facilities management, procurement, and digital operations
- In‑person team meetings, which may require travel
- Net zero oversight or governance meetings

The programme is designed to support early‑career individuals from backgrounds currently underrepresented in the relevant sector.
This placement offers:
- Full‑time paid work experience over 8 weeks

After completing the placement, participants may be eligible to apply for a longer paid follow‑on placement, subject to programme availability and eligibility criteria.
