Maintenance Engineer4 on 4 off (Days & Nights)Middlesbrough Area

The site

This is one of the UK’s leading party food production sites – bhajis, samosas, onion rings, spring rolls. If it’s in the party food aisle at a major UK supermarket, there’s a good chance it was made right here, at scale and at speed.

Part of a bigger story

This site is part of a larger UK food manufacturing group, home to a portfolio of well-known British food brands. The group has grown quickly in recent years – now spanning close to 20 sites nationally with annual turnover approaching £1.5bn – and continues to expand through ongoing investment and acquisition.

A new senior leadership team has been built out over the past year, as the business pushes towards a clear ambition: becoming the UK’s leading chilled prepared food group.

For engineers, that growth is real opportunity: sites are being brought up to consistent standards, systems are being modernised, and there’s genuine scope to build a career as the group scales – not just maintain the status quo.

Why join

  • 4 on, 4 off shift pattern gives you real time off, not fragmented recovery days
  • Strong engineering team culture where competence matters more than noise
  • Genuine variety of work across mechanical and electrical systems
  • Clear focus on fixing root causes, not just symptoms
  • Supportive environment with structured maintenance systems already in place
  • Backed by a growing national food group, with the investment and career paths that come with it
  • Benefits including retail discounts, wellbeing support, volunteering days, and employee assistance programme

Key responsibilities

  • Respond to mechanical and electrical breakdowns and carry out structured fault finding
  • Complete planned preventative maintenance to agreed schedules and standards
  • Carry out repairs safely and efficiently to minimise downtime
  • Record all maintenance activity and corrective actions accurately on the CMMS
  • Support improvements in equipment reliability and performance
  • Work collaboratively with production and site teams to maintain operational flow

About you

  • Experience in a multi skilled maintenance engineering role
  • Recognised engineering qualifications (mechanical and/or electrical)
  • Strong fault finding and diagnostic skills
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Comfortable working a 4 on 4 off rotation including night shifts
  • Own transport useful given the site location and shift times
  • Food manufacturing or FMCG experience is useful but not essential
