Job overview
We are offering a fixed term contract until July 2027 for secondment cover with our friendly, enthusiastic team at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge as a Band 7 Nuclear Medicine Physicist. We work in a large, newly refurbished department that offers a wide range of diagnostic procedures and therapies, including SIRT, PRRT and PSMA. We have three SPECT/SPECT-CT systems, a PET-CT scanner and a large radiopharmacy. This year we are installing state-of-the-art imaging equipment in the form of 3D SPECT-CT and LAFOV PET-CT machines. We also provide MPE/physics support for four Nuclear Medicine departments at regional hospitals.
We are a forward-thinking group with close ties to the University of Cambridge, and we are involved in some exciting research projects, especially early phase MRT trials. We are keen to make our service the best that it can be, and that includes a commitment to developing our team professionally. You would be encouraged to lead on your own projects, and supported in working towards registration as a Higher Specialist Scientist.

Main duties of the job
Contribute to the work of the Nuclear Medicine physics team, which includes:
- Support and development for a wide range of Nuclear Medicine and PET-CT diagnostic procedures.
- Provision of a wide range of radionuclide therapies and associated dosimetry.
- Quality assurance for a wide range of equipment used in Nuclear Medicine and PET-CT.
- Teaching and training in radiation protection and physics applied to Nuclear Medicine.
- Providing radiation protection advice to patients, staff and public.
- Site visits to Nuclear Medicine departments in hospitals across East Anglia to perform equipment QC and provide scientific support.

Person specification
Qualifications
- Good honours degree in physics or a closely related subject.
- Completed STP or ACS Route 2 training or equivalent.
- Registered as a Clinical Scientist
- Membership of IPEM
Experience
- Experience in nuclear medicine on Part 2 IPEM or STP long rotation or equivalent
- Experience of commissioning or testing different types of nuclear medicine equipment.
- Teaching/lecturing experience.
- Experience with administration of radionuclide therapies.
Knowledge
- Good knowledge of a range of nuclear medicine procedures with underpinning knowledge.
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant guidelines and legislation.
- Knowledge of nuclear medicine equipment, quality assurance and its application.
- Knowledge of document control systems and their importance.
- Knowledge and understanding of the principles and practice of other areas of medical physics including radiation protection and radiotherapy.
Skills
- Able to operate gamma cameras, PET/CT scanner, image processing systems and radiation counting/monitoring equipment.
- Able to work safely with radiation sources
- Able to write clearly and concisely.
- Able to communicate verbally with all levels of staff and patients.
- Able to deliver teaching and training on complex subjects to other professional groups.
