Senior O&M Engineer (Wind Turbines)

Salary: £59,200, up to 15% bonus and health cover. Flexible Working Pattern.
Overview
The Senior O&M Engineer is a critical role within the Offshore O&M Business, focusing on delivering O&M scope of works in the UK and potentially overseas (USA, Germany, France, etc.). The role works closely with contractors, multinational joint ventures and multiple departments within Offshore O&M, Offshore Operations and Global Services to maximise SPR’s/ Iberdrola’s long‑term asset value and production revenue. Reporting to a Lead O&M Engineer or the Asset Integrity Management Department Manager, the engineer will define O&M strategies and plans, tender and negotiate technical solutions, and act as technical lead for small‑scale offshore O&M campaigns and installations, managing contractors and interfaces while ensuring quality and best practices with HSE performance.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead technical and engineering aspects of small‑scale offshore O&M campaigns and installations across multiple Iberdrola offshore projects, mainly in the UK and Ireland, and in countries across Europe (Germany, France, Spain, etc.) and the USA.
- Provide O&M engineering support, assistance and recommendations to deliver mid‑ to large‑scale O&M works on time, within budget and to quality standards, following industry best practice and ensuring regulatory compliance with H&S and the environment.
- Implement offshore standards, procedures, tools, best practices and quality requirements.
- Evaluate O&M solutions and risk levels impacting technical integrity or asset performance, propose mitigation recommendations to Lead O&M Engineers or the Department Manager, and ensure cost‑effective solutions are identified and risks reduced.
- Document all assessments, advice and recommendations in accordance with internal procedures and industry best practice, ensuring sufficient technical and commercial due diligence is available for business decisions.
- Assist O&M teams using agreed SPR business processes.
- Evaluate and present the best course of action for technical interventions, supporting internal leads and managers or external contractors based on asset integrity status, electricity production and other KPIs.
- Provide key strategic advice, assessment and recommendations to the business throughout the project life cycle from development to decommissioning.
- Input on appropriate bid levels, commercial strategies and agreements, and help prepare investment dossiers for all funding requests.
- Co‑ordinate with employees across the UK, Germany, France, Spain and the USA to ensure project execution with intelligent and cost‑effective resourcing.
- Work with the HSE team to develop HSE strategy for O&M works and ensure a high standard of health and safety awareness.
- Feed recommendations for improvement into lessons learned regarding offshore wind farm operation and maintenance, sharing insights across different offshore projects.
What You’ll Bring
- Good knowledge and some industrial experience in a relevant technical speciality (e.g., wind turbines, cables, high voltage, SCADA, drivetrains, electronics, data analysis).
- Experience analysing failures and test reports.
- Experience defining maintenance scope of works.
- Ability to manage people effectively to deliver required outputs timely.
- Strong planning, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence key project and business decisions.
- Excellent report writing and presentation skills, summarising key parameters and drivers.
- Organisational and operational skills, linking awareness to technical judgement and decision making.
- Ability to anticipate problems and plan mitigating solutions proactively.
- Ability to manage decision‑making processes under pressure and tight deadlines.
- Experience leading others through change and managing change processes.
- Support the management of scopes of work requiring interface and coordination.
- Recruit staff necessary to deliver O&M works across specified timescales.
- Advise on the impact of technical risks and issues, balancing technical detail with commercial needs and providing recommendations within relevant risks.
- Develop and apply knowledge of European/local country standards.
- Some experience of offshore operations.
