HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.
Current Opportunity: Electrical Engineer
Location: Based in Coventry – the South Region comprises Sublots 2B, 2A and 1A Long Itchington Wood. It stretches for approximately 39.2km from Finham Brook to Southam through a mixture of rural and suburban landscapes.
Key Accountabilities
- Support the delivery of electrical works across multiple HS2 infrastructure and building assets.
- Review electrical designs and ensure installation activities are carried out in accordance with specifications, standards and project requirements.
- Coordinate interfaces between electrical, mechanical, civil, rail systems and architectural disciplines.
- Monitor subcontractor performance, ensuring compliance with programme, quality and health & safety requirements.
- Assist with the planning and management of electrical installation, testing, commissioning and handover activities.
- Identify technical issues and support the development of practical engineering solutions.
- Ensure all works are delivered in accordance with company procedures, industry standards and statutory regulations.
- Participate in site inspections, risk assessments, audits and quality assurance activities.
- Support project reporting, progress tracking and documentation management.
- Foster collaborative working relationships with clients, suppliers and project stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Degree, HNC or HND in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
- Proven experience delivering electrical installations on major construction, infrastructure, rail or industrial projects.
- Strong understanding of LV electrical systems, power distribution, lighting, earthing, containment and associated building services systems.
- Knowledge of electrical testing, commissioning and handover processes.
- Experience working with subcontractors and multidisciplinary delivery teams.
- Knowledge of relevant UK regulations, standards and industry best practices.
- Strong communication, problem‑solving and organisational skills.
- Ability to work within a fast‑paced major project environment.
