Sue Ryder is one of the largest charity retailers in the UK with over 400 shops, providing 2.7 million hours of support each year. We operate high‑street shops that sell donated and new goods to fund our hospice, home and community services.
Overview
As a member of the retail team you will help inspire communities to give more care by reducing, reusing and recycling. You will work closely with the Shop Manager to run the Stubbington Green shop and support our broader mission.
Responsibilities
- Use retail experience to drive business, push sales and achieve targets.
- Lead a volunteer team to deliver great customer service.
- Work with the local community to generate donated stock.
- Recruit, train and retain volunteers who look to you and the shop manager for leadership.
- Set high standards of merchandising and housekeeping, prioritising health and safety.
- Maintain effective stock processes – ensure the shop is well merchandised with fresh, seasonal stock.
- Act as a brand ambassador, supporting in‑store campaigns and national fundraising initiatives.
- Manage the Epos operation and other IT administration tasks.
Minimum Essential Criteria
- Customer service experience.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Cash handling/till work.
- Basic IT skills (emails, instant messaging, video calls).
- Organisational skills.
- Lone working experience.
Desirable Criteria
- High‑street retail / leisure / hospitality background.
- KPI and target experience.
- Charity retail experience.
- Health & safety knowledge.
- Team player.
- Key holder/opening and closing duties.
- Merchandising / stock rotation skills.

Working Hours and Schedule
Weekends are worked on a rota. We typically close at 5:15 pm and start at 8:45 am. Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day off.
