Introduction
Business Analyst/Service Designer
3 Year Fixed Term Post, 28 Hours per week
This role sits within the Strategy and Engagement department, where two of our core priorities are to understand our parishes well and to continually improve how we work as a support function. Achieving both depends on strong data, alongside systems and processes that are efficient, reliable and accessible.
The role focuses on three key areas:
- Managing and integrating data across multiple systems, ensuring that information is accurate, up to date and available to those who need it
- Identifying opportunities to improve processes, reducing complexity, saving time and cost, and making life easier for colleagues, church leaders and partners.
- Improving how we request and use information from parishes, providing greater clarity about purpose and strengthening our ability to offer timely and relevant support.
This role supports our responsibility to steward data well and strengthen the support we provide, enabling parish leaders to pursue the diocesan vision and contribute to agreed outcomes across Derbyshire and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
Data Integration and Management:
- Integrate data from multiple systems, including Microsoft Forms, Excel, SharePoint Lists, Dataverse, the diocesan website, Mailchimp, CMS platforms, and GIS tools.
- Develop and maintain a clear diocesan data model, using relational databases in Dataverse and integrations with other systems, building on recent GDPR and IT audit work and emerging tools such as the Mission Action Planning platform.
- Use Microsoft Power Automate to connect systems and streamline processes across the Parish Support Team.
Data Analysis and Visualization:
- Use tools such as Microsoft Power BI to consolidate data from multiple sources and present it clearly.
- Produce dashboards and reports that provide insight into parish activity and support needs.
- Generate analysis that supports diocesan leaders in making informed decisions.
- Develop journey maps of key processes, highlighting touchpoints, identifying pain points, and informing improvement priorities.
Process Improvement and Service Design:
- Identify and implement improvements to data-related processes, increasing efficiency and reducing complexity.
- Develop and document standard operating procedures for data handling and integration.
- Build mechanisms to gather feedback and capture user experience from parish ministry.
- Use tools such as Microsoft 365 Copilot to streamline routine tasks and free up staff time for higher-value work.
Research and Monitoring:
- Support the development of approaches to monitoring the impact of strategic activity.
- Pilot tools such as a Diocesan Insights Log to capture observations, issues and opportunities from across the organisation.
- Contribute to the development of methods for conducting research, including exploring models such as a diocesan research panel.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with senior leaders to advance data and systems priorities.
- Collaborate with teams across the organisation to make effective use of Microsoft tools, including Power Platform and Copilot.
- Support the continued strengthening of data protection, governance, and risk management practices.
