We’re working with a market-leading technology business operating in the public sector, a genuinely international organisation with strong growth ambitions, including the development of a new UK centre of excellence. We’re now looking for a Commercial Manager to take ownership of contract and ESG matters across the business. This is a newly-shaped role that sits alongside the bid and delivery teams: you’ll support live tenders with ESG credentials and commercial input, then take ownership of those contracts once they’re won, reviewing heads of terms, managing variation requests, and ensuring KPIs and commercial obligations are met throughout delivery.

The legal side of the role has been deliberately separated out and is supported centrally by the group’s legal team in Germany, so this position is genuinely focused on the commercial and ESG substance of contracts rather than legal drafting. It’s a varied, cross-functional role that touches sales, project delivery and operations, with real scope to shape how commercial and ESG information is captured and used across the business.

What this hiring manager is really looking for:

AI & technology literate. The team actively uses AI tools to speed up and standardise commercial documentation. You don’t need to be a developer, but you should be comfortable with modern technology and understand how AI can support the process in practice, not just in theory.

A process leader. You’ll be the person who holds the commercial and contractual process together — accountable for accuracy, consistency and pace, and confident in driving the detail forward in pressured, fast-moving situations.

Comfortable in an international environment. This role sits within a genuinely international structure, working with colleagues and stakeholders across the UK and Germany. A flexible, culturally aware approach is essential.

A growth mindset and positive outlook. This matters most of all. The business is growing and building its culture deliberately, and they want someone solution-focused and team-oriented, someone whose first instinct is “here’s how we fix it” rather than “here’s why it didn’t work”.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and maintaining the organisation’s ESG profile and credentials, ready to deploy into live tenders
  • Providing commercial input into bids, working closely with the bid manager and wider commercial team
  • Reviewing heads of terms on new contracts, ensuring the business isn’t exposed to undue risk
  • Owning the management of variation requests on live contracts, redrafting terms as arrangements change
  • Monitoring and reporting on commercial KPIs and service levels
  • Acting as the go-to specialist on contract details, liability caps, indexation, payment terms and sign-off routes
  • Building and maintaining a central knowledge bank of commercial and contractual information
  • Working closely with the legal team in Germany, escalating anything requiring formal legal sign-off

What we’re looking for:

Sector background is far less important than capability and mindset. What matters is solid experience in commercial or contract management, ideally including variation or change management on live contracts, along with genuine exposure to ESG reporting or credentials.

You’ll also need strong written and verbal communication skills, a sharp eye for detail, and the confidence to review commercial terms and identify risk without needing a formal legal qualification. Organisation and self-direction are key, as you’ll be managing competing deadlines without dropping the ball.
