Senior Care Assistant (Nights) – Full Time & Part Time

Qualifications

  • Working towards or have achieved NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Care Training programmes.
  • Willingness to participate in vocational training programmes.

Responsibilities

  • Be a competent role model to the team and ensure the highest possible levels of care are maintained.
  • Support training and supervision of junior and new team members under the supervision of senior team members.
  • Act as a key worker and assist clients in all aspects of their care needs (physical, emotional and spiritual), providing supervision and attention to preserve their comfort and dignity.
  • Pay particular attention to clients who have limited mobility or physical/learning difficulties, making the best use of aids.
  • Closely monitor clients who may be confused and/or have behavioural problems.
  • Assist in the promotion of continence.
  • Assist in the delivery of care for clients who are dying or who have a progressive illness, including last rites.
  • Complete, observe and review care planning needs, and complete daily written records in line with company policies.
  • When working a night shift, carry out regular checks as determined by the care plan.
  • Assist in the framework of social activities by interacting with clients and helping them to continue with hobbies and activities.
  • Make visitors feel welcome and provide refreshments or assistance as required.
  • Report on the well‑being of clients and liaise with GPs, support managers etc.
  • Ensure rooms are clean and tidy, commodes are empty, and waste is disposed of according to the care home’s policy; use resources appropriately.
  • Clean and maintain equipment used by clients or relatives (wheelchairs, hearing aids, spectacles, etc.).
  • Maintain the care home’s cleanliness in line with the company’s attention to detail philosophy.
  • Care for clients’ clothing and rooms as named, and ensure all clothing is recorded and clearly marked.
  • Ensure privacy and dignity for the dying and the bereaved.
  • Assist clients who need help during mealtimes, being aware of swallowing difficulties and dietary requirements; serve food and drinks as requested.
  • Escort clients travelling to and from the care home, e.g. on outings or hospital visits.
  • Dispense medication and record all relevant information following the Safe Handling of Medicines course.
  • Carry out holistic assessments when clients are admitted, covering nutritional, incontinence, and risk issues.
  • Participate in staff and client meetings as required.
  • Provide a clear and concise handover report to all team members in a timely manner.

Training and Development

  • Maintain professional knowledge and competence.
  • Attend mandatory training days or courses on or off site as required.
  • Participate in all training relevant to the role to achieve required qualifications.

  • Promote and ensure the good reputation of the care home.
  • Keep confidential information secure and do not divulge it to third parties.
  • Notify the Registered Manager or person in charge of any inability to report for duty, and inform upon return after any period of absence.
  • Maintain the security of the care home at all times.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all equipment is clean and well maintained.
  • Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned.
