Overview
Senior Consultant Psychiatrist role within Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust, based in Deal with additional vacancies in Dover and Folkestone. This community‑based post involves leading a collaborative team and delivering high‑quality care to local communities while working flexibly with two other consultants.
The role requires full GMC registration, Approved Clinician status, and S12 approval under the Mental Health Act (or the ability to obtain these within three months of appointment). Candidates should hold MRCPsych or equivalent, be on or within six months of inclusion on the Specialist Register, and possess a MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership within the South Kent Coastal Community Mental Health Team alongside other Consultant colleagues.
- Deliver medical input to patients under the Community Mental Health Team as required.
- Actively strengthen relationships with external agencies, including the local CCG.
- Lead the screening and assessment of new referrals jointly with team members.
- Participate in continuous professional development, research, service evaluation, clinical audit, and quality improvement programmes.
- Plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to the post.
- Demonstrate shared leadership and collaborative working to achieve service improvement.
Qualifications
- MRCPsych or equivalent and on or within six months of the Specialist Register.
- Full GMC registration with licence to practise; in good standing concerning warnings and conditions on practice.
- Approved Clinician status (or ability to obtain within three months). S12 approval under the Mental Health Act (or ability to obtain within three months).
- Medical qualification of MBBS or equivalent; a higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management is welcomed.
- Excellent clinical skills using a bio‑psycho‑social perspective and wide medical knowledge.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
- Strong evidence appraisals, audit and improvement programmes; experience in research or service evaluation.
- Vehicle driving licence (UK) or alternative presentation of evidence of transportation.
- Ability to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training.
