Job Description:

We have exciting opportunities for 3 experienced Clinical/Counselling Psychologists or CBT Therapists to join the Sutton, Merton, and Wandsworth Talking Therapies teams as Clinical Lead. These posts were created due to additional funding.

Positions

  • Sutton Talking Therapies – 1.0 WTE
  • Merton Talking Therapies – 0.8 WTE
  • Wandsworth Talking Therapies – 0.8 WTE

Working arrangements

Hybrid model: minimum 2 days on site per week. Monday‑Thursday 8am–8pm and Fridays 8am–5pm (Merton and Wandsworth) or 9am–8pm/5pm (Sutton). Flexible working and will be discussed during interview. At least one evening per week required.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver strong clinical and strategic leadership for the Sutton, Merton, and Wandsworth Talking Therapies services.
  • Exercise responsibility for governance of psychological therapy practice, ensuring appropriate supervision and governance structures.
  • Collaborate with clinical, operational and administrative colleagues to provide evidence‑based therapies and meet key performance metrics (completed treatment, reliable recovery and improvement, waiting‑time standards).
  • Oversee the clinical caseload of all staff and ensure safe, effective case management.
  • Oversee clinical outcomes and adjust service delivery to meet stepped‑care guidance.
  • Provide specialist psychological assessment using tests, self‑report measures, rating scales, observations and semi‑structured interviews.
  • Diagnose, formulate and implement treatment plans based on evidence‑based frameworks.
  • Implement specialist interventions for depression and anxiety in line with NICE and NHS Talking Therapies guidance.
  • Evaluate and decide on treatment options, integrating theoretical, therapeutic and historical factors.
  • Exercise full responsibility and autonomy for interventions, treatment and discharge under service guidelines, communicating with patients, referral agents and other stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years qualified clinical or counselling psychology experience, including at least 3 post‑qualification years in the relevant specialty.
  • Experience with a wide variety of clinical presentations across outpatient, community and primary care settings.
  • Experience delivering time‑limited CBT and other evidence‑based therapies to adults.
  • Experience exercising full clinical responsibility within multidisciplinary care plans.
  • Experience teaching, training and supervising other clinicians.
  • Experience representing psychological therapies within multidisciplinary contexts.
  • Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology accredited by the BPS or equivalent in the UK.
  • Post‑doctoral training in additional specialised areas of psychological practice.
  • Accreditation in another NHS Talking Therapies‑approved evidence‑based psychological therapy.
  • BABCP or equivalent supervisor accreditation (e.g., EMDR, BCT, IPT, DIT, PCE‑CfD, NET).
  • Formal qualification as a clinical supervisor in an NHS Talking Therapies‑approved evidence‑based therapy.
  • Strong knowledge and skill in applying CBT to adult populations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for clients, families, carers and professional colleagues.
  • Leadership and management skills for qualified and unqualified psychological therapists; ability to supervise and coordinate staff.
  • Well‑developed knowledge of specialised psychological therapies for difficult‑to‑treat groups such as personality disorder, dual diagnoses and disability.
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research design, methodology and multivariate data analysis in psychological therapy.
