Role Summary
We are looking for a Cost Manager with proven experience to join our Cost Management Team within the Wales & West Region Project Controls Practice. You must be ambitious, innovative, and able to work across the Energy and Infrastructure sectors. The role involves supporting senior cost managers, delivering the business plan for the rapidly expanding team, ensuring our cost‑management services meet the highest standards, and fostering a collaborative, professional, and positive working environment.
Responsibilities
- Reporting into the Cost Management Lead, you will support the building of long‑term, sustainable relationships with members of our organisation and our wider client base.
- Provide technical experience in Cost Management services across complex infrastructure.
- Demonstrate an understanding of industry benchmarks and best practices, Cost and Work Breakdown Structures, and methods of measurement (e.g. RMM, NRM).
- Develop a growing network within the energy and/or infrastructure sectors.
- Apply innovation, technical excellence, and exceptional service delivery to cost‑management activities.
- Monitor, analyse, and control cost performance against set targets.
- Identify and apply cost‑efficient solutions.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Remain aware of challenges and opportunities in the industry.
- Possess commercial, quantity surveying, or finance skills, with working knowledge of the construction industry, and an understanding of Standard Forms of Contract (NEC/FIDIC/IChemE).
- Understand performance measurement of projects using Earned Value Management (EVM) and similar techniques.
- Apply cost analysis techniques.
- Experience or desire to use VBA is desirable but not essential.
- Major project or programme work experience is desirable.
Strategic
- Support delivery of the Cost Management Service strategy, including continuous development.
- Deliver an exceptional cost management service for multiple stakeholders.
- Identify growth opportunities linked to the Complex Projects business strategy (desirable).
- Ensure appropriate engagement with the wider organisation as determined by the strategy.
- Contribute to a positive team ethos and engage in opportunities for the team’s development.
Business Development
- Support Cost Management business development activity.
- Contribute to support Key Account Management activities.
- Engage and understand internal business processes.
- Support key accounts to maximise our impact.
Project Leadership
- Support the Cost Leadership team with delivery of portfolios and projects.
- Act as the ambassador for the organisation, your profession, and your professional institution.
- Provide technical advice to stakeholders.
- Be competent in project commercial accountability.
Technical Leadership
- Broadly develop your experience and expertise in line with core competencies.
- Build knowledge of legal and technical matters relevant to the work, including the laws of the region or country in which you practice.
- Participate in relevant internal or external training initiatives.
- Enhance knowledge of quality assurance and environmental management concepts.
- Support client relationships and service delivery.
- Build and manage teams by mentoring and developing junior Cost Managers.
- Help grow service‑ and sector‑focused teams.
- Engage actively within a project delivery environment.
- Mentor and develop Assistant Cost Managers.
Attributes
- Experience working for or on behalf of local or national Complex Projects clients.
- Experience in a consultancy environment delivering exceptional projects (desirable).
- Degree qualified in a construction or finance‑related field.
- Open to travel for strategic opportunities across regions.
- Relevant industry experience in cost‑oriented roles.
